All yogawear sold by us is being produced under the usage of only high-quality materials and by avoiding metals. We develop the styles by ourselves, also the patterns, the details and the size charts, visit the suppliers and inspect the goods before shipping. Only then we can ensure, that our products are matching with our ideas.
Our yogawear is produced only in BSCI-controlled sewing factories. This ensures, that our yogawear provides good jobs and is being made according to the hightest ethic, moral, ecological and social standards - definetly without child labour, dumping salaries or health hazardous working conditions. Simply according to yogic principles.
At the same time we make sure, that you can get our valuable yogawear for affordable prices. Just look at the details of the yoga pants and yoga shirts, especially the workmanship, the materials and the fitting. You can choose from very affordable yoga sets, but also combine our yoga pants and yoga shirts on your own. The colors and designs of the yoga pants and yoga shirts are created in such way, that the articles are easy to combine, are fitting for all yoga exercises and also look good.
Colors:
All our garments are, if not dyed with natural dyestuff, processed with only high-quality colors. These dyestuffs are of course compliant to the latest legal requirements and are not harmful to health or environment. All garments are pre-washed in order to avoid bleeding while washing. But we ask you to observe the washing symbols on the washing labels and wash the garments appropriate.
Attention: The colors, which are displayed on your webbrowser, your colorprinter, our catalogues, flyers or magazine advertisements, can deviate slightly from the real color of the real garment. This depends on the available light source and the calibration and processing correctness of screens and printers. This phenomen is wellknown in digital photography and printing technology and cannot - even with good calibrated screens and expensive printers - be avoided in general.
FAQ for yogawear - the wear for yoga
You might know it also: while sitting on the yogamat the pant is uncomfortable tight and does not allow further flexing, in the shoulderstand the t-shirt slips down towards the shoulders and shows more than you like others to see :-o
This can be avoided and especially for the need while doing yoga we from YOGATEX yogawear (yogateacher Adarsh Singh and his wife, a garment engineer and educated ladies tailor) are creating specialized collections, which are most appropriate for yoga.
The material is mostly high-quality cotton with some slight portion of elasthan, which provides very good fitting and flexibility. The designs are relaxed and still fashionable. Some of the ladies tops even have sports bras with removable bust pads. So it is possible to adjust the fitting very easy.
At the small details you can recognize the quality - there are no cord stoppers, there are no metal rivets or eyelets and also no zippers, which could pinch you when you lay on them. Each item is wellthought, it is possible to combine most of the articles and they are so comfortable, that you don't want to change them after the lessons.
Below are a couple of typical questions and answers around yogawear, eco fashion and natural clothes.
Q: Why do we need special yogawear?
A: Depending on the yoga style the requirements are different for the yogawear. Simple example: Bikram-, Power- or Hot Yoga. Is being done in a heated room, a sweaty session of exercises, after that normally no relaxation or meditation. Here it is important, that the sweat is absorbed and transported quickly. Sporty designs and flexible materials are required - like our shorts and tops from the BODY line of ZAMKARA yogawear (www.zamkara.de).
Other example: Kundalini-Yoga. Here we do in the morning Sadhana (morning yoga), if possible outdoors. After a sometimes sweaty Kriya (sequence of exercises) we have a relaxation and a long meditation. Here the yogawear must dry fast, should be warm when moist and should be in general robust. The color white strengthens and protects the aura (the electromagnetic field) around the physical body. The shirts should be wide enough, that they can be worn over a turban. Especially for Kundalini Yoga we have designed our white linensuits Japji and Sadhana.
As with most yoga classes there is tension and relaxation, workout and meditation, it is good, when the yogawear can be put on and off according to the onion-layer-principle. Here wide sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, shoulder shrugs or shawls, light blankets or towels are being used.
Q: Which materials are recommendable?
A: In general natural fabric and materials like cotton and linen should be chosen. They have extraordinary capabilities and feature very good moisture absorption, wet tear strength, good thermal isolation, electric insulation (antistatic - protect the aura around the body), etc. Also due to reasons of energy consumption, carbon footprint and easy recycling natural materials should be prefered. If possible we avoid the use of excessive plastics and environmental harmful processes.
Q: What is with the seams?
A:
Seams shall be sewn in such way, that there are no open fabric seams and no loose threads. There are different types of seams: flexible (overlock) and tight seams (double stitch) and many more. While the design of a pattern, the stretching behaviour and the type of seams must be adjusted to a proper fitting - esp at arm- and neckholes. Some seams also have a decorative character and are not always and solely function. In general are nice seams an indicator of proper workmanship and professional sewing.
Q: What is with the offer of organic grown cotton?
A: The world market an available kbA cotton (cotton from controlled organic production) is pretty small and expensive. Ecotex certified materials are in demand, but also more expensive than 'normal' cotton, esp since the certification process is expensive and time consuming. But - practically and seen from the side of fabric experts - there is not soo much difference between 'normal' cotton and ecotex cotton. Most of the available normal cotton is also not hazardous to health and quite often the price difference between ecotex or other environmental labeled cotton and normal cotton is simply not justified. But you should notice, that most of todays commercial available cotton is gene manipulated and therefore does hardly need any pestizides or insecticides (that is the reason why it is done...). But in some countries like in India or Bangladesh the farmers still use pestizides or insecticides which are banned in Europe, as well as dyestuffs, detergents or bleaching methods, so the cheap, local clothes are not really suitable for a healthy lifestyle. Esp products for the local market (typical thai fishermen pant, kurtas, tunikas, etc - as they are brought in the suitcases of travelling salesmen to the yoga festivals) have sometimes more chemicals in the fibres, than the ambitous yogi and yogini might think of.
In general you should be careful, if there are no proper washcare labels in the garments. Then mostly this garments to not comply with our strict and high standards of the EU. But rest assured, all big garment importers, their suppliers and fabric mills comply to the legal guidelines. This is proven and tested in factory audits, social compliance analyses and several other measures by the importers and indenpendent 3rd party test institutes like TÜV, SGS, etc. Since we from YOGATEX yogawear are working in the garment industry, we have seen many factories from Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam or China, North Korea, Cambodia, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. We know, what we have to look for and what ensures quality. This is the reason, why we have our yogawear produced only in BSCI-controlled sewing factories - even if we have to pay a higher purchasing price.
Q: What about Fair Trade products?
A: The amount of Fair Trade products is pretty limited, as the effort to manufacture garments in a professional way is immense (the whole textile production chain from growing of cotton / linen / hemp, over cleaning, spinning, weaving, washing dyeing, sewing, finishing, etc) and can hardly be managed by small cooperations or communities. Also the quality level of this products is not always accepted by the market :-o
But as the textile industry in Asia is considered an 'entrance industry' on the way to more prosperity and in many countries (Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, north of China, etc.) gives jobs and enables a vital way from the transition from poor farmers towards more prospreous life-styles, all garment made in Asia - seen in a more global perspective - can be viewed as Fair Trade.
Unfortunately there are some suppliers - mostly in underdeveloped areas - which are willing and able to produce their garments at cheapest prices by forcing their staff to work excessive overtimes, pay lowest wages, not complying with international accepted social standards, etc. Most consumers in the West are not aware, that this is not encouraged by the big companies in the markets. Buyers and customers are aware of their social responsibility and push their suppliers by trainings, factory audits, etc. In worst cases orders are cancelled and the suppliers are blacklisted. This is another reason, why we are producing our yogawear solely in reliable and BSCI-controlled suppliers.
Q: How important is the look of meditation wear?
A: Meditation wear is function wear. It should be designed in a simple and asthetic way and has to be very functional. The choice of materials, colors, designs and accessoires has to reflect this functionality. Accessoires like zippers, buttons, buckels or even pearls are a not necessary and should be avoided. Ideally meditation wear is made f cotton or linen and is wide and relaxed fitted. The width of the waist should be adjusted with a cord string and not with an often too tight rubberband. As most meditations are done in sitting, the area of the legs, crotch and thighs should be spacious enough. Also the sleeves should be long and the necks high in order to avoid feeling cold.
Q: Is ist 'allowed' to focus on fashion on the yogamat?
A: Every person, more or less conscious, has the desire to look good and being appreciated by other people and to be attractive. Therefore it is only logic, that you also want to look good on the yogamat. So an important factor for yogawear is not just function (like stretching, comfort, moisture absorption) but also design and fashion (color, cut, materials). Every yogateacher has seen the crowds of overweight people in their obnoxious XXL-T-Shirts and the too tight designer leggings. Good yogawear is therefore not just function, but also pleasing and appealing for the eye. Camouflaging critical zones like too wide hips or too short legs let the persons inside good yogawear appear a little bit more attractive.
But there is also a thin line towards overemphasizing. Too much focus on the body (design, insights, sexyness, etc) can be distracting and even disturbing. Natural beauty comes from within, good yogawear shall and can help to point out the persons inherent natural beauty, without being 'too much'. Therefore transparent fabrics, deep openings or too tight cuts are not recommendable. Due to this reason the bust part of most our tops is done in doulbe layers and acts as light sports bra.
Q: Where can you identify good garment quality?
A: ... after washing! Yogawear should be washed quite often, as you are doing yoga basically every day. Therefore the used materials shall be strong and washing resistant. Also yogawear should be washed gently. Often it is enought to wash the yogawear in lukewarm water without or only with little washing detergent (also soap or washing nuts are ok!). Drying in the sun is ok, as the UV light is desinfektant. In general yogawear has a shorter lifetime than a normal jeans, simply as it is worn more often, stretched more often and washed more often.
Q: What is with fancy and fashionable accessoires?
A: In general metal parts have to be avoided at yogawear. Also buttons, buckels, zippers or other hard parts have to be avoided at yogawear - even metal eyelets, rivets or cord stoppers should not be used. If you once where laying on a cordstopper in bow pose, you know what we mean. Rubberband should be wide and soft, the cord stoppers secured for not pulling into the tunnels.
Q: Is the color white the best color for yoga?
A: The color white is the color which is supporting and protecting the human aura in the best possible way. Just have a look at the modern life-style-advertisements from banking products, insurances, cars to food or health products: everywhere young sporty people in white garments being relaxed in large, asthetic rooms...
Ideally the garments should not be pure white, as this bleaching can only be done with clorine and is in general pretty hazardous for the environment. Much better is the bleaching to offwhite with kalium, as this is much more environmentally friendly. Therefore most of our yogawear is 'only' offwhite and not purewhite.
Q: What about colors and prints?
A: There are some huge differences in quality and price within textile colors and dyestuff. Cheap and not recommendable prints often smell slightly like gasoline. Also if prints are 'sticky' or feel somehow moist, there is most often too much softener in the colors. Not well dyed and color-fixed garment is bleeding while washing or can even be irritable for the skin. Anyway it is no mistake to wash your newly purchased garments once before wearning. You never know, how long the goods have already been stored in a warehouse. All our dyed and printed yogawear is prewashed and ready to use.
Q: What is most important when fitting new yogawear?
A: While fitting you should do some simple stretching, bending or twisting exercises. When seams are breaking or the garment feels somewhere too tight - don't buy it.
Q: There are lots of good functionwear made out of plastics like polyesters, nylons, etc. Is this also good for yoga?
A: Good yogawear has quite often a small percentage of elasthan in order to make the fabric more flexible and washing resistant. Pure function fibres or garments made out of 'plastics' are not recommendable, as production and disposal of this garments are much worse for the environment than natural fibres. Just have a look at the energy consumption and the impact on environment. Therefore most yogawear is made out of natural fibres.
This is just a short summary of the many aspects of yogawear. If you have more questions, do not hesitate to call us:
